✈️ Kerala Trip from Hyderabad — Flight + Cab Itinerary Guide (2025)

Why Kerala is Perfect for Hyderabad Travellers

Hyderabad to Kerala is one of the most popular holiday routes in South India. A 1.5-hour flight drops you into a completely different world — from the dry Deccan plateau to lush green hills, backwater canals, and tropical beaches. Kerala is close enough for a long weekend but diverse enough for a full week.

Many Hyderabad families visit Kerala for Munnar's tea gardens, Alleppey's houseboats, Thekkady's wildlife, and Kovalam's beaches. The best part — everything within Kerala is 3–5 hours apart by cab, so you spend time enjoying destinations instead of travelling between them.

This guide covers how to get from Hyderabad to Kerala, the best itineraries for different trip lengths, and how to book a cab that handles your entire Kerala trip.

How to Reach Kerala from Hyderabad

Flight to Kochi (Most Popular)

  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Airlines: IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet — multiple daily flights
  • Airport: Cochin International Airport (COK)
  • Best if: Your itinerary starts with Munnar, Thekkady, or Alleppey

Kochi is the most popular entry point. Land at the airport, your cab picks you up, and you head straight to your first destination. We offer Kochi airport taxi service — driver waits at arrivals with a name board.

Flight to Trivandrum

  • Duration: 1.5–2 hours (some flights via Bangalore or Chennai)
  • Airport: Trivandrum International Airport (TRV)
  • Best if: You want to start with Kovalam beach, Varkala, or Kanyakumari

Fewer direct flights from Hyderabad compared to Kochi, but IndiGo operates daily. Check for connecting flights via Bangalore — sometimes cheaper.

Flight to Calicut

  • Duration: 1.5 hours
  • Airport: Calicut International Airport (CCJ)
  • Best if: You are heading to Wayanad

Direct flights from Hyderabad to Calicut are limited but growing. Wayanad is just 3 hours from Calicut airport.

Driving from Hyderabad

  • Distance: 1,100 km to Kochi / 1,200 km to Trivandrum
  • Duration: 16–18 hours

This is a very long drive. Flying is strongly recommended unless you are combining with stops in between (Tirupati, Chennai, or Madurai on the way). If you do drive, our cab service covers Hyderabad to Kerala with experienced long-distance drivers and overnight travel options.

Three beaches + backwaters + India's southernmost point — all in 5 days.

Fly Into One Airport, Fly Out of the Other

This is the smartest way to see Kerala without wasting a day driving back to where you started.

  • Kochi in, Trivandrum out: Start with hills (Munnar, Thekkady), then backwaters (Alleppey), then Kanyakumari, exit from Trivandrum
  • Trivandrum in, Kochi out: Start with beaches (Kovalam, Varkala), then backwaters, then hills, exit from Kochi

One-way flights between Hyderabad and both Kerala airports are available daily. Sometimes Trivandrum is cheaper, sometimes Kochi — check both.

Your cab drives you the entire way within Kerala. We offer one-way cabs between the two airports: Trivandrum to Kochi or Kochi to Trivandrum (210 km, 4 hours).

Why Book a Cab for the Entire Kerala Trip

Once you land in Kerala, a dedicated cab with driver is the best way to get around. Here is why:

  • Airport pickup included: Driver meets you at arrivals with a name board
  • Same driver, entire trip: No rebooking at each city. Driver knows your preferences by day 2
  • Hill road expertise: Munnar and Thekkady have hairpin bends. Local drivers handle these daily
  • Flexible timing: Spend more time at a viewpoint you love, skip something you do not like
  • Luggage stays in the car: No packing and unpacking at bus stations
  • Local knowledge: Best restaurants, hidden viewpoints, temple timings, shortcut roads

Buses exist between Kerala cities but involve multiple transfers and fixed schedules. Trains do not go to Munnar, Thekkady, or Wayanad. Self-driving on ghat roads is risky if you are not familiar with them.

Vehicle Options

  • Sedan (Swift Dzire): Couples or 2 adults + 1 child. Budget-friendly
  • SUV (Innova Crysta): Families of 4–6. More legroom, better on hill roads, extra luggage space
  • Tempo Traveller (12-seater): Groups, college trips, family reunions

All vehicles are AC, GPS-tracked, and well-maintained.

Tips for Hyderabad Travellers

Flights

  • Book 2–3 weeks ahead for best fares. Long weekend flights fill up fast
  • Morning flights are best — land by 10–11 AM, reach Munnar by afternoon with daylight for the ghat section
  • Check both Kochi and Trivandrum fares — prices vary by date

Food

  • Kerala food is very different from Hyderabad food. Rice-based, coconut-heavy, lots of curry leaves
  • Must try: Appam and stew (breakfast), Kerala meals on banana leaf (lunch), fish curry (dinner)
  • Biryani lovers: Kerala biryani exists but it is very different from Hyderabadi biryani — lighter, uses short-grain rice, and has more coconut
  • Vegetarian food is widely available everywhere
  • North Indian restaurants exist in Munnar, Thekkady, and Kochi tourist areas

Weather

  • October–March: Best time. Pleasant everywhere. Munnar gets cold at night (10–15°C)
  • April–May: Hot in plains but hill stations are comfortable
  • June–September: Monsoon. Lush green but heavy rain. Some activities may close

Language

  • Malayalam is the local language. English works perfectly in all tourist areas
  • Telugu will not help much, but many Keralites understand basic Hindi
  • Your cab driver will speak English or Hindi — communication is never an issue

Money

  • UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe) works almost everywhere
  • Carry some cash for small shops, temple donations, and entry fees
  • ATMs available in all towns

Hyderabad to Wayanad (Alternative)

If you have done the Munnar–Alleppey circuit before, try Wayanad — Kerala's northern hill district:

  • Fly Hyderabad → Calicut (1.5 hrs)
  • Calicut → Wayanad (85 km, 2.5 hrs)
  • Edakkal Caves (6,000-year-old carvings), Chembra Peak trek, Soochipara Falls, wildlife safari
  • Continue to Mysore (105 km) or Ooty (100 km) for a hill station circuit
