✈️ Kerala Trip from Mumbai — Flight + Cab Itinerary Guide (2025)

Why Mumbai Travellers Love Kerala

Mumbai to Kerala is one of India's most popular holiday routes. A 2-hour flight drops you from the concrete jungle into God's Own Country — misty tea gardens, palm-lined backwaters, and beaches where you can actually breathe. Kerala is the anti-Mumbai in the best possible way.

For Mumbaikars, Kerala works perfectly for every occasion — Diwali breaks, Christmas holidays, long weekends, honeymoons, and family vacations. The flight is short, the state is compact, and the variety is unmatched. Hills, backwaters, wildlife, beaches, temples, and Ayurveda — all within 3–5 hours of each other by cab.

How to Reach Kerala from Mumbai

Flight (Best Option)

  • Mumbai to Kochi — 2 hours. Multiple daily flights (IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara, GoFirst)
  • Mumbai to Trivandrum — 2 hours. Daily flights
  • Mumbai to Calicut — 1.5 hours. Fewer flights but growing

Flights are affordable if booked 2–3 weeks ahead — often under ₹4,000 one way. Kochi is the most popular entry point for the Munnar–Thekkady–Alleppey circuit.

We offer Kochi airport taxi and Trivandrum airport taxi — driver waits at arrivals with a name board.

Train

  • Mumbai to Kochi — 24–26 hours. Trains: Netravati Express (via Konkan coast — one of India's most scenic train routes), Kochuveli Express
  • Mumbai to Trivandrum — 26–28 hours

The Konkan Railway route along the coast is spectacular — bridges over rivers, tunnels through mountains, and the Arabian Sea alongside. If you have the time, it is worth the journey. Book AC 2-tier or 3-tier on IRCTC.

Driving

Mumbai to Kochi is 1,350 km — not practical for a holiday. Fly instead.

Fly Into One Airport, Fly Out of the Other

This is the smartest way to see Kerala without wasting a day driving back:

  • Kochi in, Trivandrum out — Hills first (Munnar, Thekkady), then backwaters (Alleppey), then Kanyakumari/beaches, exit from Trivandrum
  • Trivandrum in, Kochi out — Beaches first (Kovalam, Varkala), then backwaters, then hills, exit from Kochi

Mumbai has daily flights to both airports. Check prices for both — sometimes one is significantly cheaper. Your cab drives you the entire way within Kerala.

Tips for Mumbai Travellers

Flights

  • Book 2–3 weeks ahead for best fares. Diwali, Christmas, and New Year flights sell out fast
  • Morning flights are best — land by 10–11 AM, reach Munnar by afternoon
  • Check both Kochi and Trivandrum fares — prices vary by date

Food

  • Kerala food is very different from Mumbai food — rice-based, coconut-heavy, no roti culture
  • Must try: Appam and stew, Kerala fish curry, puttu and kadala curry, Malabar biryani
  • Vegetarian food is widely available. Jain food options exist in tourist areas
  • Mumbai-style restaurants are rare — embrace the local food, it is part of the experience

Weather

  • October–March — Best time. Pleasant everywhere. Munnar is cold at night
  • Diwali break (October/November) — Perfect weather, post-monsoon greenery, moderate crowds
  • Christmas–New Year — Peak season. Book everything 3–4 weeks ahead
  • June–September — Monsoon. Lush green but heavy rain

Money

  • UPI works everywhere. Carry some cash for small shops and temple donations
  • Kerala is generally cheaper than Mumbai for food, transport, and accommodation

Language

  • Malayalam is the local language. English works perfectly in tourist areas
  • Hindi is understood in most tourist towns. Your cab driver will speak Hindi or English

Why Book a Cab for the Entire Trip

Many Mumbai travellers ask about renting a self-drive car. Honest advice — don't. Kerala's ghat roads to Munnar and Thekkady have hairpin bends, steep drops, and occasional fog. Local drivers handle these daily. A dedicated cab with driver means:

  • Airport pickup and drop — no Ola/Uber uncertainty at Kerala airports
  • Same driver, entire trip — knows your preferences by day 2
  • Ghat road expertise — essential for Munnar and Thekkady
  • Houseboat jetty drop — driver knows every jetty in Alleppey
  • We also arrange houseboats, hotels, and complete trip planning
